The motive in the community shield is "Åkle-mønster" from Ål.
The three patterns symbolizes also the three parishes in the community;
Sundre, Leveld and Torpo.

Travel industry
The travel industry in Ål has a different profile then the neighbouring communities in Hallingdal. Ål do not have large tourist businesses, but is more related to family- and cabin tourism.
The cultural village
The cultural heritage has long traditions and many expressions. In 1992 Ål Culture House was built and is a regional culture house which has put Ål and Hallingdal on the cultural map with both exciting amateur productions and artist of high international quality.
Trade and business
- Ål is a traditional agricultural village, the largest farm animal community in Buskerud.
- Hallingdal sjukestugu (hospital) offers health care to everyone in Hallingdal, takes care of the health care and gives the village great expertise on health and lots of personnel.
- The school centre with Ål vidaregåande skule, Lien Landbruksskule and Ål Folkehøgskule og kurssenter for deaf
- You find industrial areas at Kleivi Næringspark, Torpo Næringshage, Gullhagen and Oppsjø which all has strengthen Ål as an industrial community.
- Ål is a leading community within Hallingdal within the construction business, with several lagre contracting companies, electricity, water/heat/sanitary and architect- and consulent companies.
Work on Åls profile- and public opinion
In a cooperation between the community and the trade business in Ål there has since 2006 been a project regarding the work on Åls profile- and public opinion. The work in 2009 has been a major phase for the project and will be continued in the future.
