Every year at the end of May, the Folk Music Week gathers national and international Folk musicians to a week of concerts, competitions, courses and parties in Ål.
The event, which gathers an audience of several thousand every year, started in 1976 and is the oldest Folk Music Fetival in Norway.
Its aim is to present the broad spectre within Norwegian folk music and dance by giving both professionals and amateures a chance on stage. Additionally, the Folkmusic Week seeks to stimulate recruitment and education. Even though the the Norwegian profile is dominating, several international artists have visited the Folkmusic Week.
